COMMUNITY

Giving back to our community an integral part of the W. L. Butler Construction, Inc. history and culture. It is our goal to support local charities that we feel have a positive impact on the youth, disabled, elderly and those in need of proper housing within the communities where we live and work. Our commitment is about much more than simply writing a check ...it’s about getting involved by allocating our time, resources and construction expertise to charitable organizations and groups.

COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS

HAITIAN SUPPORT: W. L. Butler Construction, Inc. joined the Sirona Cares Foundation to send relief to those affected by the devastating earthquake that shook the country on January 12. Team members donated clothing, medical supplies, towels and storage containers; which were all distributed by the Coast Guard to various schools and orphanages.

ST. FRANCIS CENTER: The Redwood City office provided food, clothing and toys during the holidays. In addition, a handful of volunteers helped out at Santa’s Workshop (where parents shopped for their children among the donated items). The St. Francis Center had a 40% increase in families within the neighborhood requiring these necessities.

OPERATION SANTA / SENIOR SANTA AND FRIENDS: Several team members in the Irvine office volunteered their time throughout the month of December to help unload trucks and fulfill gift requests from foster children, disadvantaged families, low income individuals who are elderly and severely disabled adults residing in the Orange County area.

3rd ANNUAL HOLIDAY EXCHANGE: Through the generosity of team members in the Stockton office, Dun-Rite Excavating and the Stockton Fire Department, children at The Walton Special Center received a flood of gifts from Santa and his elves on December 6. This local school provides distinctive programs for students with severe disabilities.

CIRCLE OF CARE: W. L. Butler Construction, Inc., has offered a Challenge Match of $100,000 to match new and increased Circle of Care gifts for Lucile Packard Children's Hospital; which is rapidly becoming one of the nation's leading centers for pediatric care, research and training.

AUTISM SPEAKS: On Saturday, October 17, a team of 25 laced up their tennis shoes from our Stockton office to participate in the 2nd Annual Central Valley ‘Walk Now’ event at Modesto Junior College. The group raised $1,500 in support of autism research, advocacy, family services and awareness.

AHA HEART WALK: On Wednesday, September 16, the Redwood City office raised $2,500 in support of the American Heart Association. As the country's No.1 and No.3 killers, heart disease and stroke have affected many of us personally. This year’s team walked in memory of a family member who lost the battle earlier this year.

MAKE-A-WISH GOLF TOURNAMENT: The Irvine office hosted its 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at the Yorba Linda Country Club on Monday, September 14; raising $60,626 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation® and their mission to make a difference in the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

MARCH OF DIMES GOLF CLASSIC: The Redwood City office hosted its 7th Annual Golf Classic at Sharon Heights Country Club on Monday, August 3. Thanks to the generosity of subcontractors, business partners and clients, this event alone raised $218,159 for the March of Dimes, which brings the company's seven year total to approximately $1.3M.

LYMPHOMATHON: Team Butler took a "Step to Find a Cure" Sunday, June 14 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. This is the third year the company has participated in the annual 5K walk honoring those whose lives have been touched by lymphoma. Led by Debra Mardesich, a lymphoma survivor at W. L. Butler Construction, the team raised $1,000.

DREAMS HAPPEN: We team up with subs and vendors every other year to build a life-size children’s playhouse—proceeds benefiting Rebuilding Together Peninsula. This year’s “La Casita Bonita,” will be raffled as part of the Dreams Happen Playhouse Auction and Gala on June 6. The Spanish-style bungalow features a slide, desk and ladder.

BLOOD DRIVE: With less than 5% of healthy Americans donating blood, W. L. Butler Construction, Inc. hosts blood drives on-site in Redwood City to provide a convenient way for team members to donate. On May 20, Blood Centers of the Pacific obtained 9 units of blood, which equals 27 life-saving components of red blood cells, plasma and platelets.

2nd ANNUAL CO-ED CHARITY SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT: The Stockton office hosted a softball tournament at the Big League Dreams Sports Park in Manteca on May 15. The event raised $10k with all proceeds benefiting the Walton Center in Stockton, which provides a special setting to meet the unique needs of students with severe disabilities.

DONATE LIFE WALK '09: Team members from the Irvine office participated in the annual 5k/1k Run/Walk Challenge on Saturday, April 25 at Cal State Fullerton. The group raised $13,162 to benefit the Donate Life California Organ & Tissue Donor Registry.

REBUILDING TOGETHER: This year’s selected family had a small home unable to accommodate Anka, an 11-year-old boy with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Several areas throughout the home were not accessible without assistance. On April 25, necessary ADA modifications were added to help make life more comfortable for Anka.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Through a fundraising program funded entirely by our team members and business partners, we are able to make an impact on the lives of our future generations. Graduating students from Woodside High School and Sequoia High School are presented with funds to help offset the rising costs of tuition, books and supplies. Our annual goal is set at $6,000; with the intention to provide varying scholarships to recipients selected based on academic performance, community citizenship, application and essay content, interview skills and overall presentation. We met our 2008/2009 goal and awarded scholarships to:

Mia Vejzagic, Woodside High – Architecture, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Chris Haemmerling, Woodside High – Construction Management, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Prescilla Pelayo, Sequoia High – Business Economics, UC Santa Barbara
