Job Description

The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the accounting department to maximize the return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems. The Accounting Manager has responsibility for all financial records, payroll records, banking, daily operation and performance management of the accounting department.

Responsibilities: Other duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs Subcontractor accounts payable duties for several Project Managers
  • Understands and can perform all aspects of accounting functions for the company
  • Effectively backs up and acts as a positive role model for a team of accounts payable and receivable, payroll, insurance coordinator and clerks
  • Reviews work output from the Accounting team including, but not limited to, journal entries, checks, bank recs, cash receipts and job cost reports
  • Recommends, establishes and maintains accounting policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems
  • Creates and maintains a standard accounting manual that would inform all team members of operating policies and procedures and providing a training tool for new Team Members in each role
  • Identifies areas for improvement and works with leaders to develop improvement initiative
  • Ensures that effective internal controls are in place and compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
  • Knowledge of existing and new legislation, and provides enforcement and adherence to all requirements
  • Produces accurate and timely cash projections and financial statements
  • Oversees the closing process and continually improves accuracy when possible
  • Provides information and manages annual audits by overseeing the preparation of audit support schedules
  • Assists with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
  • Works with CFO and Leadership Team on ad-hoc projects and strategic initiatives
  • Performs fiscal year end accounting close outs and tax return preparation with CPA
  • Monitors financial conditions by conducting monthly internal audits on acccounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll
  • Assists Accounts Receivable Manager with monthly owner billings and aids in collections
  • Manages licenses and tax reporting for all states
  • Manages the Board of Equalization account including reporting and paying taxes
  • Completes Business Property Statements and Statement of Information annually
  • Reviews depreciation schedules for accuracy
  • Processes year end 1099’s
  • Assists CFO with insurance policies
  • Ensures Insurance Coordinators stays abreast of changing insurance requirements
  • Maintains the Timberline software system including archiving, database management and updates.
  • Researches and implements best document imaging software and facilitiates the training.
  • Works with Project Managers to ensure understanding of WIP’s

Requirements: Our ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum five years of similar experience in the construction or related industry
  • Proficient level in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Proficient level in Timberline
  • Availability to work for extended hours in order to meet deadlines
  • Is a strategic thinker and collaborator who works effectively with diverse team members
  • Leadership and mentor skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills all all levels within the company
  • Active and capable problem solving skills
  • Be experienced and proficient in conflict resolution

  • Discretion and maturity in the performance of duties of a highly confidential nature
