William L. Butler

Chief Executive Officer / Founder

We don’t change when the economy, the season or what’s ‘en vogue’ changes, we still do the same thing; take care of our clients, take care of the community and take care of our people.

Bio

Bill Butler is the founder and visionary behind W. L. Butler. In 1973, having been surrounded by construction his entire life, Bill took a leap of faith and left his hometown of Clifton Park, New York to drive west to become a carpenter. Shortly thereafter, he started a small construction business in Woodside, California, out of the back of his pick up truck. That company would develop into the W. L. Butler companies and one of the most respected names within the building industry.

Today, Bill continues to lead the company, providing leadership, vision and compassion. Even with its growth and success, W. L. Butler continues to reflect his personal devotion to family, community and innovation.

A venture philanthropist, Bill has established a meaningful company culture of giving back, both financially and through hands-on volunteerism. Besides encouraging his Team Members to participate, he has served on numerous boards and charitable organizations, including Rebuilding Together Peninsula, Shelter Network and the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center.

Bill is a dynamic individual who never forgets a name. It’s been said his greatest strength is the ability to identify talent and surround himself with good people. From his company’s beginning, he has demonstrated a profound commitment to customer service and quality craftsmanship. Combined with his decades of experience, he and W. L. Butler have forged a reputation that is nearly unmatched in the building industry. Bill is routinely sought after for his commentary and advice on issues facing the construction sector. He is a graduate of Dale Carnegie’s Management Training Program and a 20-year member of the Vistage Executive Leadership Program.
